In the following video, you can see Vuototecnica’s ATS unit in action during a leak test on a bag of chips.
Ensuring a perfect seal is not just a matter of packaging aesthetics, but a fundamental requirement for food safety and product integrity throughout the logistics chain.
As you can see from the video, thanks to Vuototecnica’s ATS unit, users can now accurately check the actual seal of packages by applying a specific vacuum value, which can be calibrated precisely according to their needs thanks to the digital vacuum switch integrated into the control panel.
The operating principle of this device is based on the creation of a pressure differential between the atmospheric pressure air contained inside the package and the vacuum generated inside the chamber, which causes the packaging itself to swell.
The pressure exerted by the internal air on the walls and seals of the packaging is directly proportional to the level of vacuum achieved in the chamber, thus allowing the material to be subjected to controlled stress.
The equipment is provided with a base plate with a sealing gasket and a dry rotary vacuum pump, as well as two manual two-way valves for vacuum interception. The system also allows direct reading of the vacuum level via an integrated vacuum gauge and has a mini vacuum switch that facilitates precise adjustment of the desired vacuum level for each test session.
This technology becomes crucial when considering extreme situations such as air transport, a topic we have already discussed on Vacuum Daily in relation to packages that tend to inflate due to pressure deficits at high altitudes. But in general, being able to test and simulate pressure stress conditions and pressure deficits in advance allows food packaging manufacturers to prevent accidental breakage or leakage during shipping, ensuring that the product arrives at destination exactly as it left the production line.
